iPhone Screen is Flickering due to an App

Flickering iPhoneIf your iPhone screen is flickering when you open a particular app, it may be the cause of the issue. This may be a minor software problem that can be fixed by closing the app.

Close iPhone App using App Switcher

For iPhone 8 or earlier, double press the home button. For iPhone X or later, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Once you see the app on the screen in the app switcher you can close it by swiping up and off the top of your screen.

Delete and Reinstall App to stop iPhone screen glitching

If closing the app hasn’t fixed the issue, the next step is to delete (and reinstall) it. To do this, on the home screen, hold down on the app until you see it start shaking. Now click the X. Then select to delete the app.

To reinstall it, you will need to go to the App Store and find the app and click to install it. If you had purchased it, you won’t need to pay again. If you find this doesn’t fix the screen glitching issue, another option is to find an app that has a similar function and download it instead.

Update Apps to stop iPhone screen flickering

If the above doesn’t fix the issue, you may need to update the apps on your iPhone. To do this, go to the App Store and tap on Updates. Here it will tell you if any apps on your iPhone need updating. It’s best to keep all apps up to date to prevent issues. If you would like to do this, go to the updates page and select to update all apps.

Turn off iPhone Auto Brightness

The auto-brightness feature means your iPhone will adjust the screen brightness according to changing light conditions.

To turn it off:

  • Open Settings
  • Select Accessibility
  • Select Display & Text Size. Toggle auto-brightness off.

iPhone screen is flickering due to hardware problems

If none of these methods has fixed the issue with your iPhone, the next option is to check for hardware issues that could physically be causing the glitch. There could be an issue with the screen itself. Now might also be a good time to take a backup your iPhone (if you haven’t done so already).
