5G is still in its infancy stage, here in Australia and it will be quite sometime before the coverage reaches everyone. Telstra will be rolling out the 5G network first to major capital CBDs and other high traffic areas before moving onto other areas. Telstra had announced in January that it had made exclusive 5G deals with some of the world’s biggest phone manufacturers.

Telstra and 5G

It has now been confirmed that Telstra will be the first to sell the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G in Australia when it launches in the first half of 2019.

Garry McGregor, Vice President of IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Australia said, “5G speeds will demonstrate unparalleled connectivity and be critical in transforming the way Australians live, work, connect and communicate. Capable of speeds up to 20 times faster than 4G, 5G will also be integral to advancing AI, IoT and computing technologies, which are key to bringing-to-life Samsung’s vision for a connected future”.

Customers who purchase a Galaxy S10+ through Telstra will be able to trade it in for a Galaxy S10 5G at no extra cost when it goes on sale – provided the trade-in phone is in good working order. The trade-in will have to be made within 21 days of the Galaxy S10 5G launching locally.

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G Specification

Where the Galaxy S10 5G sets itself apart from the rest of the Galaxy S10 line is its network performance. There’s a lot of buzz around the possibilities 5G will enable, whether it be downloading entire TV seasons in minutes or streaming 4K video on the go.

5G might be its key selling point, but that’s not all the Galaxy S10 5G has to offer. The Galaxy S10 5G is the largest phone in the S10 family, with a massive 6.7-inch display.

Key specifications for the Galaxy S10 5G include a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ display with a camera cut out, an Exynos 9820 processor, 256GB of storage, 8GB of RAM, and four cameras on the back, two cameras on the front, and a 4,500mAh battery.

Rear-facing cameras include a 12MP standard lens, 12MP zoom lens, 16MP wide-angle lens, and a 3D depth sensing lens. For selfie-lovers, the Galaxy S10 5G packs a 10MP f/1.9 lens plus another 3D depth camera. Here, the 3D camera is able to sharpen the quality of your selfies using the depth information it picks up from the world around you.

With commercial 5G networks still some way off, assessing the Galaxy S10 5G is tough. We shall wait till that happens to pass any judgement. However, the Galaxy S10 5G offers plenty of compelling features beyond its support for faster mobile networks.
